Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of participating in Project Ascend?

Project Ascend will be completely free! Yes, you read that right. You will pay nothing out of pocket but that doesn’t mean that it will be easy or that it isn’t something serious. Project Ascend will have very similar rules to a real-life job. Why? Because our goal is to prepare you for your first real engineering job.

How does Project Ascend compare to a Co-op Education Program offered by universities?

Co-op Education Programs require enrollment in the school offering the program. Enrollment in the school to gain access to the program means payments in the form of tuition fees, or other expenses such as registration fees, lab fees, library access, and sometimes room and board if you stay on campus.

What sets Project Ascend apart from other similar programs like Chingu and CherryOnTech?

Project Ascend’s goal is to offer an immersive experience that simulates the daily activities of software engineers, focusing on practical skills and real-world tools like Git and Github, within a team-based, project-driven learning environment.

How does Project Ascend assist participants in building a portfolio and gaining practical project experience?

Project Ascend will enhance portfolio development by providing a comprehensive report at the program’s end. This report includes detailed records of Jira tickets, commits, features, branches worked on, and assessments. It will encapsulate the participant’s engagement in job simulation activities, including pair programming, one-on-one sessions, and involvement in technical decisions, offering tangible evidence of their practical experience and skills.

How does Project Ascend help participants de-risk themselves and stand out to potential employers?

Project Ascend will help participants stand out to employers by simulating real job environments, providing hands-on project experience, and teaching practical skills with current industry tools.

Is Project Ascend similar to an apprenticeship, and does it prepare participants for entry-level roles in the tech industry?

Project Ascend will be like an apprenticeship as it prepares participants for entry-level tech roles through practical experience and project work. Still, it differs by providing a structured learning environment simulating a real job.

How does Project Ascend address concerns about duration and relevance to job market requirements?

The duration of the program will be determined on an individual-by-individual basis. Participants will be given interviews and unique agreements tailored to their preferences. Agreements can be renewed if the participant doesn’t find a job by the time the Agreement expires.

What technologies will Project Ascend use?

The ultimate goal is to make Project Ascent language-agnostic by having multiple teams and multiple projects an engineer can be a part of. Until we get there, we aim to start with Fullstack Web Development technologies but based on feedback, starting with Fullstack Web Development technologies is subject to change.
